9 Must-Do Activities For The Kids in Ventura County Coast
Summer is here, the kids are out of school and looking for fun-in-the-sun activities. Here in Ventura County, there are tons of must-do activities to keep the family busy on a budget. From stand-up paddle boards to miniature golf, here are nine must-do activities for the kids in Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo and Port Hueneme.
1. Ventura Harbor Village
It’s easy to spend the entire day at Ventura Harbor Village. Ventura Boat Rentals offers rentals for kayaks, SUP boards, pedal or power boats, and jet skis to get the family out on the water. The harbor village also has boutique shops and many delicious dining options where families will be pleased palate. Make sure to stop by the vintage indoor carousel and arcade – always a hit with the kids! Additionally, the headquarters of the Island Packers is located within the harbor village. Island Packers sends daily ferries out to Channel Islands National Park and has whale watching and marine wildlife tours. Plus, Surfer’s Knoll – the local beach – is right across the street. End the day at Coastal Cone, a local favorite ice cream shop that’s been in the village for 33 years.
2. Zander’s Game House
Disconnect from your technology devices and connect with each other at Zander’s Game House in Camarillo. They offer over 850 board and card games and a variety of snacks and desserts. Enjoy as many games as you’d like for only $5 per person.
3. Wheel Fun Rentals
With locations in Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and Ventura, Wheel Fun Rentals features a large selection of specialty cycles, cruiser bikes, and beach rentals perfect for exploring the beach boardwalk with the family. Bike helmets, maps, and bike locks are included, ensuring a safe and well-prepared trip.
4. Ventura Marina Park Peninsula
Search for treasure at the Ventura Marina Park Peninsula pirate ship – a local favorite. There’s also the ocean, a playground for the kids to play on, plenty of picnic tables and BBQ grills, and grassy areas perfect to kick back or toss a frisbee around.
5. Murphy Auto Museum
Located in Oxnard, the Murphy Auto Museum is a nonprofit vintage car museum that showcases over 90 classic vintage cars. They are open every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM and children 12 years and under are always free. They also have model railroads always on display which attracts adults and kids alike.
6. Channel Islands National Park
The Channel Islands National Park has five islands that offer different adventure opportunities for the family. Whether you’re looking to hike, camp, kayak, snorkel, birdwatch, or simply relax, visit the Islands Packers website to check out their daily boat schedule. 7. Seabee Museum
Established in 1947, the United States Navy Seabee Museum is the second oldest Navy museum in the Naval History and Heritage Command system. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits artifacts related to the history of the US Navy Engineer Corps and the Naval Construction Force (aka the Seabees). They also have an interactive learning play area for kids where they can build with trucks, legos, and more!
8. Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force
The Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force in Camarillo is an all-volunteer organization, with members from all walks of life, dedicated to preserving the history of WWII aircraft for generations to come. The CAF Ghost Squadron is more than just a collection, but to recreate, remind, and reinforce the lessons learned from the defining moments in American military aviation history.
9. Heritage Square
Stop by Heritage Square in historic downtown Oxnard for the 26th annual Summer Concert Series. The concert series will run from June 15 through September 14 every Friday from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. There will be 12 family-friendly live performances by a band representing a genre ranging from old school to classic rock, Latin Jazz, Rhythm, Blues, and more.
