Meet: Clara Mari

Clara Mari

Did you grow up here or end up here? I luckily found Ventura while living in New York City and dreaming of reconnecting with nature and surfing in California. I was born and raised on the northwest coast of France and I have always been attracted by the surf and California culture.

Do you own a business located in Ventura County Coast? I’m a freelance Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Art director

What is the name of your business? Atelier Clara Mari

Please tell us about your business.
I work with various clients to answer their visual and creative needs. I’m currently working on the graphic communication for Proper Hotel Group in Los Angeles and Findings Market/Findings Flea in Ventura. I’m also called to collaborate as an Artist for various brands and other projects, like creating the graphics of a surfboard 😉

Why did you base your business in Ventura County Coast? The Ventura County Coast is the perfect balance between nature and city. It’s also a place where art and sport feed each other and I love the community it brings. People here are so welcoming, it’s incredible!

What 5 things would you recommend someone do when visiting Ventura County Coast?

  1. Explore all the beaches from the coast – be curious
  2. Rent a surfboard and get out there – start at Mondos if you are a beginner
  3. Take a walk on Main Street and stop by Findings Market or Findings Flea for the best gifts or local souvenir
  4. Grab a coffee at Singing Sun or a Matcha at Prospect and talk with some locals. End the day with a glass of wine at Buddy’s.
  5. Book a pottery workshop with Clay Parlor

The perfect waves in the morning or in the evening, surfing with dolphins and sealions, driving with the window down on the PCH, watching the sky turn orange/pink at sunset and waking up with the laughing songs of seagulls. -Clara Mari

  1. A towel and a swimsuit
  2. Sunscreen
  3. Camera
  4. A beanie and a jacket as you might be surprised by the fresh wind
  5. Your favorite playlist when you will drive alongside the PCH for unforgettable memories

What is your favorite restaurant in Ventura County Coast, and what is the best thing on the menu? Lunch at Frontside and Dinner at Eric Ericsson’s Fish Co, with a fish and chips, and a Madewest beer watching the sunset and surfers riding the last waves of the day at C-street.

What’s the best thing on the menu? The fresh aussie at Frontside for some elevated smoked salmon, avocado, toast and poached eggs.

Please explain your perfect day in Ventura County Coast. My perfect day would be to start by grabbing a Matcha at prospect, going surfing at surfer point break with some friends, having breakfast at Frontside, working and drawing in the afternoon from my house studio and biking to buddy’s for an intimate glass of wine at the bar and finish the day cooking at home with my partner.
