The first time that I ever saw the view of the Channel Islands from the beach at Oxnard Shores, I was blown away– the islands appeared so clear and so close, with the sun sparkling behind them casting the brightest shades of yellow, orange, peach and pink across the entire horizon. Having grown up in Los Angeles, frequenting Santa Monica and Malibu, and spending many hours at the beach “studying” at UCSB, I couldn’t believe I had never seen this astonishingly unique view of our coast before. And this was in late November! It couldn’t have been more gorgeous. To this day, six years later, when I get to walk out to watch the sunset on that same beach with my family on a clear day, this view still takes my breath away! I believe it’s one of Southern California’s best-kept secrets.

Ventura County Coast, perfectly positioned between Malibu and Santa Barbara, offers uncrowded beaches and more than 3,000 miles of farmland that feed both body and soul. With its unique vistas and mild, Mediterranean-like climate, it’s no surprise this area has become a hidden gem for weddings year-round.

Spring Destination Weddings in Ventura County

Spring Weddings: Embrace the Magic of California’s Super Bloom (March-May)

Spring begins the traditional wedding season, and Ventura County Coast comes alive. From March through May, the California Super Bloom turns the hillsides into a gorgeous blanket of wildflowers. This provides the perfect backdrop for couples looking to tie the knot in a lush, colorful setting.

  • Pleasant Weather: With mild temperatures and clear skies, spring is ideal for both beachfront and hillside venues.
  • Outdoor Venues: Gardens, beaches, stunning parks, and ranch-style venues are abundant, offering panoramic views and gorgeous green spaces. If you’re dreaming of a rustic ranch wedding, Camarillo also offers authentic ranch venues that capture the charm of California’s agricultural heritage.
  • Pro Tip: Work with a local florist, like Yamaguchi Nursery in Santa Paula, to find out what’s in season to incorporate into your wedding flowers. Seasonal means availability and accessibility– the best value they can provide to you, and your wallet.

Summer Weddings: Sunshine and Seaside Celebrations (June-August)

Summer is usually peak wedding season, and the same goes for visiting the Ventura County Coast. With over 12 miles of uncrowded beaches and stunning coastline views, couples are drawn to the area for its natural beauty and relaxed vibe.

From June to August, couples can host their celebrations in beautiful outdoor venues, like beachfront hotels or scenic parks.

  • Sunny and Warm: Clear skies and warm temperatures allow for outdoor celebrations at beachside venues.
  • Festival Season: Summer also coincides with local festivals and events providing additional entertainment for guests.
  • Extended Daylight: The long days allow for sunset photos and more time for outdoor activities. Whether barefoot on the beach or enjoying a sunset ceremony, summer’s long daylight hours make it an ideal season for weddings.
  • Pro-Tip: Consider providing shaded areas and hydration stations accessible for your guests. Summer temperatures can be high, particularly the further you get away from the coast. Having cool drinks and shaded areas will keep everyone comfortable during your celebration.

Fall Wedding Destination in California

Autumn Weddings: Harvest Season and Cozy Vibes (September-November)

As the weather cools down across most of the country in September, Ventura County Coast remains blessed with nearly perfect fall weather and some of the best sunsets around. This makes fall an ideal season for planning a wedding in the region.

  • Harvest Season. Embrace the region’s agricultural heritage with farm-to-table dining and wine-inspired celebrations. November also brings Farm Day to Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, allowing friends and guests to enjoy agricultural activities while exploring the beauty of the region.
  • Cooler Temperatures. Let’s be real, it can still reach the 80s in Ventura County Coast during October, but as the weather cools slightly, outdoor venues remain comfortable and autumn hues enhance the natural backdrop.
  • Less Crowded. Fall offers a quieter, more intimate atmosphere, perfect for couples seeking an intimate experience without peak-season crowds.
  • Pro Tip: Incorporate Oxnard’s famed strawberries into your wedding menu. Known as the “strawberry capital of the world,” you can find these luscious red berries seasonally available from November through July.

Winter Weddings: Cozy Charm with a Coastal Breeze (December-February)

While Southern California is known for its mild winters, Ventura County Coast takes it a step further. Even in the chill of winter, you can host a wedding by the coast or in the foggy hills at a cozy ranch, perfect for a memorable event complete with blankets, outdoor heaters, and twinkling lights.

  • Mild Winter Weather: December and February may be cooler, but Ventura County’s winter remains comfortable for beachside ceremonies and celebrations.
  • Historical Venues: For a unique twist, consider a wedding at one of Ventura County Coast’s cultural sites. The season’s cozy, nostalgic feel complements vintage and historical venues like Heritage Square in Oxnard, the Camarillo Ranch House, or the Victorian House in Ventura for a reflective and romantic celebration. A charming rustic ranch can also provide the same charm out in the Camarillo plains.
  • Cozy, Intimate Vibes: Think fire pits, fireplaces, and cozy coffee bars– perfect for a winter wedding by the sea.

Even during the winter months, you can enjoy the charm of a coastal wedding or cozy indoor venue complemented by seasonal decorations like pinecones, greenery, and twinkling lights.

  • Pro Tip: Consider bringing blankets for your guests to cozy up with as the weather starts to cool down. Florists can also help create winter-themed bouquets with seasonal greenery, adding a festive touch to your decor.
